America's Boating Club North Strand

District 26

Little River, SC | N. Myrtle Beach, SC | Myrtle Beach, SC

North Strand Sail and Power Squadron is committed to serving the boating community in the Grand Strand area through valuable and worthwhile civic activities for the betterment of our boating community. Though ever changing as conditions warrant and new opportunities present themselves, a few of our long-term civic activities are listed here.

America's Boating Course Although this is an educational activity, we present it here since it is unique among our many boating courses due to the fact that it is made available to the boating public for the purpose of promoting public boating safety on our local waters. Hence, it is categorized as a civic activity.

Vessel Safety Checks We are heavily committed to performing free vessel safety examinations. These are courtesy, non-enforcement safety inspections performed on your boat at your chosen location at your chosen time. Upon successful completion of the inspection, you will receive a safety inspection decal and full report of the inspection results. If the inspection is not successful, meaning you do not meet USCG safety requirements, your report will indicate the deficiencies and you will be given the opportunity to correct them. You will then have the opportunity to be reinspected and, if deficiencies have been corrected, you will then receive the safety decal. This decal can then be conspicuously attached to your vessel to let others (SCDNR, USCG, marine law enforcement agencies, etc.) know that you have been inspected and meet all USCG safety equipment requirements. This does not guarantee you will not be reinspected by any one of these marine law enforcement agencies, but the probability is greatly reduced unless you are doing something to draw their attention to you or your vessel. To schedule a courtesy vessel safety inspection, contact North Strand Sail and Power Squadron at 843-564-3078 and leave a voicemail message indicating your preferred contact information and stating that you are interested in scheduling a VSC examination.

Cooperative Charting North Strand Sail and Power Squadron is proud to partner through our national organization, America's Boating Club (aka United States Power Squadron) with the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, USCG, NOAA s National Geodetic Survey (NGS), and Cruiser s Net in the performance of marine (mostly) related inspections. These include reporting lost/damaged/misplaced Aids to Navigation (buoys, etc.), reporting on marinas, reporting on bridges over navigable waters and the non-marine activity of reporting on lost or damaged geodetic survey marks.

Parks Cleanup We love the outdoors, of course. And we are stewards to its upkeep and protection. To this end, we have officially adopted Heritage Parks Nature Preserve and regularly meet at the park, located at the west end of 53rd St. N in North Myrtle Beach, for clean-up. Not only are we performing a much needed task to keep the park clean and appealing, it makes for a wonderful stroll in the park for pure enjoyment. Come join our organization and join in on this most enjoyable activity with like-minded nature lovers and boating enthusiasts.
